My old sewing machine had been dropping stitches and jamming on zig zags for a while now, so I finally went out and bought a replacement. It’s beautiful.
I’ve always liked the old sewing machines that are solid and have dials for all the settings. That’s what I grew up using. So I was quite reluctant to use one that’s all computerised and automatic. But after a while of sitting down in the store and trying the various ones I finally accepted that technology is amazing. It has automatic needle threading, reinforcement stitches at the beginning and end of a line of stitches, it cuts the thread for you, it has more stitches than I can count, including a stitch that looks like a crocodile and the buttonholes!
I’ve avoided buttons for so long because my old machine couldn’t do a decent buttonhole. With this one you put the button in the buttonhole foot and it uses that to base the length of the buttonhole on. It seems this has been around for a while, but I’ve never had it on a machine I’ve used before so it’s groundbreaking technology for me.
So many features and so many accessories. I also have a new foot for doing invisible zips. I’m going to be able to make the invisiblest zips anyones never seen.
It also sews letters. That means it can swear. I didn’t know until I got it home and started looking through the manual but you can also make up stitches and program them in, I haven’t got up to trying that yet but I’m pretty excited about it. Hopefully I will think of some sewing projects that I can do to make use of it and show you all how wonderful this machine is.
